  12. Thanks to all for replying to my last post.  Since then I have
  13.  
  14. 1.  rebuilt my desktop.
  15.  
  16. 2.  Reformatted my drive and rebuilt the system.
  17.  
  18. 3.  Made my desktop files visible (via ResEdit) on all volumes, thrown 
  19.     them away,
  20.     and rebooted so that the desktop files are rebuilt from scratch.
  21.  
  22. Yet my disappearing icons problem remains.  It occurs only to files
  23. which reside on a non-system volume, yet have aliases on the system
  24. volume (in the menu items folder).  Upon rebuild, the aliases are good.
  25. After the next reboot without a rebuild, the alias icons revert to the
  26. generic type.  Moreover, the icons disappear on the volume where the
  27. original file resides.

  29. Has anyone else seen this problem?  Has anyone fixed it?
