- When I first bought my drive, I read this instruction and forgot about it. I
- had several carts that seemed to "go bad" for no reason. Ever since I have been
- religious about making sure that the power does not shut off to the drive while
- the cart is in it, I have not had a single problem with any cart. It may be
- coincidence, but I doubt it.
-
- Some thoughts I would offer:
-
- 1) If the manual says don't do it, don't. Especially given how often SyQuest
- carts have problems.
-
- 2) Power down the Mac, but not the drive or just hit the spin-down button on
- the front so the eject lever just pops out, let it spin down, then power down.
- I am reasonably sure that this moves the heads away from the platter.
