  10. Comments on the following problem would be appreciated.
  11. Configuration (4 yrs old): Mac II, ~100MB Rodime hard drive,
  12. 6.0.5->6.0.8, various Aldus apps, RGB monitor, Laserwriter II

  14. A couple of Mac II's of about the same age seemed to be locking up
  15. more and more frequently.  I decided to try upgrading from 6.0.5 to
  16. 6.0.8 on one system and the machine would would emit a ascending
  17. series of notes rather than the startup chord and the screen remained
  18. blank.  So, I decided to start from scratch and re-formatted the Rodime
  19. using its installation disk and then tried installing 6.0.8.  Hit the
  20. -36 error, so ran Norton Utils 1.x Speedisk to look for bad blocks.  
  21. It identified about 30 bad blocks.  Then I successfully installed 6.0.8.
  22. Then I started installing Aldus Freehand and Pagemaker and ran into 
  23. Error -36 at the end of the installation when the application is assembling
  24. itself after reading all the diskettes.

  26. Any guidance on what Error -36 is and what can be done about it?
