- Some time ago I wrote asking a similar question concerning a tune one of our
- LC machines made on startup.
-
- What confused a lot of people (including myself) was that the LC tune was very
- different to tunes on older models and thus we could not identify it.
-
- To cut a long story short, the tune indicated a SIMMS fault. I contacted
- my dealer and played the tune down the phone (I had made a System 7 sound
- file of it using a second LC to record it) and they said it was most likely
- that there was a bad chip on one of the boards. Since they supplied the machine
- they replaced the boards free of charge even though the LC was out of warranty.
- (the SIMMS had a "lifetime" guarantee). Apple Centre Warrington UK; you get a
- big kiss from me at least. The LC in question has since performed flawlesly
- and is having the time of its life trying to size up with a Canon CLC 10.
- <yes I know, we need to send in a Quadra to rescue it>.
-
- If anyone has an LC playing a funny tune and they want to compare it to the
- bad SIMMS tune I have, I can email a binhex of my System 7 sound file.
- Maybe I should send it to Summex. Any ideas if Apple would object?
- I don't want lawyers landing on my toes like a ton of bricks.
-
- Andy Calder.
-
- PS It could be that newer models use the same tune as the LC as well.
- Anyone know? I suspect the Classic II and LC II do.
