- I own the portable version of the Logitech Trackman, and I have not been
- very pleased with its performance. It simply is not very accurate. When
- you try to zero in on a menu bar or a windows icon, the arrow will frequently
- stick just outside of the desired target, and then suddenly will release
- and move past the target. This problem was evident from the day I bought
- the Trackman, so I'm pretty sure that dirt or finger oils on the rollerball
- are _not_ the cause. A quick check with a fellow worker familiar with
- Logitch products revealed that this is semi-normal operation for their
- trackballs, so I have reluctantly put up with its poor performance.
-
- On the positive side, the manner in which the unit clips to the keyboard
- or sits up on its own is well designed. True, the Trackman covers my floppy
- drive slot, but it's so easy to unclip the trackball, and I switch floppies
- so infrequently that this is not a valid complaint of the product.
-
- I have no experience with the expensive Microsoft trackball. If I replace
- the Trackman, I will probably buy a regular table-top mouse.
