-
- YG>I got an offer for a
-
- YG> 80486/SLC.
- YG> 4MB Ram,
- YG> 120 MB HD,
- YG> Modem/Fax,
- YG> Extra Battery + External charger.
- YG> DOS 5 + Windows 3.1.
-
- YG>for $2,468 (US). This seems to be too good to be true. I wonder what
- YG>the catch is:
-
- You'll find a write up on it in PC Mag a few weeks ago - they did a big
- review of notebooks. This one is quite new so it go only a passing
- mention not a full review.
-
- The catch is that the "486" is a Cyrix clone which has only a 1K cache
- on board and is really a 386 running 486 code. Compatibility seems OK
- but it hasn't been fully tested. The real kicker is the speed - PC
- Brand claims it beats the hell out of 386SX-25's but PC Mag was not so
- happy with the speed and generally found the implmenentation of the
- chip not optimized for the best speed capable from the chip.
-
- That being said, the price is right given everything offered.
