-
- Any memory manager should be loaded first (if possible) and by itself.
-
- EMM386.SYS or QEMM.SYS, but not both
-
- HIMEM.SYS or HIDOS.SYS, but not both
-
- I've loaded EMM386 and HIDOS together, same for QEMM and HIMEM, but was just
- experimenting and would not recommend it. Doesn't gain you anything plus may
- cause problems down the line.
-
- I used QEMM on my previous 386-25DX board because DR-DOS's manager would never
- load right, but it now works flawlessly with my new 486-33DX Local Bus AMI
- motherboard. (Go figure??)
-
- There is definitely differences from one board to another, usually little quirky
- things. If you can't make a program work with a particular configuration then
- use DR-DOS's menu feature in your CONFIG.SYS file. I have 7 different
- configurations to select from for one reason or another.
-
- One quirk was on my 386 I could load Drivers, TSR's up into F000-F7FF without
- any problems but had to exclude F000-FFFF for the 486. Number of Engineering
- programs crashed or wouldn't load until I excluded this region.
