- So why do some math co-processors work so well at speeds above their rating?
- I have even had them on intensive diagnostics with no problems from most,
- except sometimes on the older versions. I have heard it said that Intel
- runs all the chips off the same line and that the faster chips are just
- labeled as faster while the slower-rated chips have not been tested at
- higher speeds but may be just as good as the faster one if one tests it.
-
- Also, doesn't temperature have a lot to do with the performance of a
- silicon juction? Even though the chips is made by Intel, is it not still
- governed by laws of physics the same as other chips? I have been reading
- a lot of Motorola Data books lately and they often specify a certain
- power level or other parameter and then go on to say: de-rate nn Watts
- (or other unit) per degree C. Doesn't that mean that silicon junctions
- perform better a cooler temperatures?
