- Hi all
-
- When I recently experimented with my PC I was just shocked!
-
- Is there anybody around who can tell me why a RAM-Drive isn't
- faster than a Hard-Drive? I just can't understand that.
-
- I've got a 486/33 machine with an IDE QUANTUM 240 Mb Harddrive.
- I then made a RAM-Drive of 6 Mb and a softwrae-cache (Smartdrive)
- of 2 Mb. I then copied CorelDraw 2.01 to the RAM-Drive (honestly
- I didn't change the INI-files). By starting CorelDraw from either
- the harddrive or the RAMdrive I couldn't find any difference in
- speed (ok so far, I thought that this could be because of the
- INI-files I didn't change). I also copied some of the sample files
- to the RAM-drive, so for example Train.cdr. When I opened this
- file from either the harddrive or the RAMdrive there was no
- difference in speed (about 9 seconds anyway). So can anyone tell
- me why the RAMdrive isn't faster than the harddrive?
-
-
- Thanks in advance
-
- Luke
