- Call Mag Innovision and ask them. 1-800-827-3998

-
- Before I made the mistake of buying my 486/33 from TriStar, I called
- Mag to verify that TriStar's standard 14" monitor was the Mag MX-14H
- (Hitachi tube, not the MX-14S Trinitron). The salesperson at Mag
- verified that this was the case. I also asked her what the difference
- between the MX-14 and the "award winning" MX-15 was. She said the
- electronics were the same and they had the same capabilities and
- microprocessor controlled mode switching. The only difference was the
- screen size. Looking at the brochure, this isn't quite true.
-
- Differences:
- MX-14H MX-15F
- CRT 14" dark tinted, 15" flag square
- non-glare w/Invar shadow mask
- non-glare
-
- Horizontal range 30-64 kHz 30-68 kHz
-
- And the physical dimensions are different of course.
-
- Neither has pin-cushion/barrel adjustments nor a degaussing switch,
- although it makes the distinct degaussing sound at power up.
-
- The picture in TriStar's ad doesn't look like the picture in Mag's own
- brochures. The Mag label MX-14 looks like the MX-15 but the plastic
- face plate covers more of the screen area.
-
- Anyway, I got the MX-15 and have been satisfied with it. Considering
- the raves in magazines and on the net, I expected a generally perfect
- picture, but I've come to accept that this isn't a possibility in a
- $600 monitor. I've looked at a bunch of other 14"/15" monitors in
- stores, including Sony Trinitrons, Samsung SyncMasters and NEC FG
- series monitors, and none are what I'd call "perfect". I've never
- seen an Idek or Nanao so I can't judge those.
-

- Bob> gotten pretty good ratings while the Gateway monitors are
- Bob> regarded as mediocre at best. I would be surprised if they were
- Bob> the same monitors. ==
-
- I've heard that Mag does make the Gateway 1572, but that it has
- different control electronics and slightly different capabilities than
- the MX-15, but the same Hitachi tube. Does the GW have pin
- cushion/barrel adjustment? The MX-15 doesn't.
