- I am installing a used 386DX20 motherboard in my old 286 case
- and not having a fun time. I have it all set-up, I believe, properly
- and still having some problems. I get an:
-
- 'XCMOS checksum error' on start-up which forces me to go into setup
-
- but once in set-up (I believe it is configured properly) I can exit
- to boot and usually (90% of the time) it'll
- startup then (otherwise it won't read my hard drive, which was and has
- been working fine)
-
- but even when it starts then, it is slow (an SI index of about 9.5 and
- it is rated at 24.0 or so according to the specs) and the turbo switch
- has no effect.
-
- the drive (an MFM Seagate 251 -1 40 MB) also does not sound the same
- but this could be due to the fact I'm not use to the cover being off
- but I'm not sure, I've never had any problems w/ the drive previously
-
- I have no cards other than controller and VGA installed the bios is
- AMI dated 1987
-
- If anyone could give me some leads or suggestions as to what to try
- (next, I plan to swap controllers/drives to test that) next, I'd
- really appreciate it. The board was fine before shipping so I'm really
- not sure what the problem could be.
-
- Thanks in Advance!!
