  14.      I am installing a used 386DX20 motherboard in my old 286 case
  15. and not having a fun time. I have it all set-up, I believe, properly
  16. and still having some problems. I get an:

  18. 'XCMOS checksum error' on start-up which forces me to go into setup
  19.  
  20. but once in set-up (I believe it is configured properly) I can exit
  21. to boot and usually (90% of the time) it'll
  22. startup then (otherwise it won't read my hard drive, which was and has
  23. been working fine)

  25. but even when it starts then, it is slow (an SI index of about 9.5 and
  26. it is rated at 24.0 or so according to the specs) and the turbo switch
  27. has no effect.

  29. the drive (an MFM Seagate 251 -1 40 MB) also does not sound the same
  30. but this could be due to the fact I'm not use to the cover being off
  31. but I'm not sure, I've never had any problems w/ the drive previously

  33. I have no cards other than controller and VGA installed the bios is
  34. AMI dated 1987

  36. If anyone could give me some leads or suggestions as to what to try
  37. (next, I plan to swap controllers/drives to test that) next, I'd
  38. really appreciate it. The board was fine before shipping so I'm really
  39. not sure what the problem could be.
