  15. i'm seeing what seems to be pretty feeble disk performance on my 730.

  17. i have a relatively old 730 (one of the first off the line, as far as i
  18. can tell).  i don't know for sure if that makes any difference.

  20. i have two 97560 drives.  i've tested them using the iozone benchmark.
  21. this benchmark (available from the usual archive places) just reads and
  22. writes a big file using normal buffered i/o system (but reading and
  23. writing a large enough file eliminates the effect of buffering).

  25. recently, i aquired two 97560 differential drives and an eisa
  26. differential scsi board.  i'm seeing the same feeble performance with
  27. these drives as with the others.

  29. i've already spent some time reporting this problem to hp, and i've even
  30. had a service person come out.  originally, i thought it was a problem
  31. with the 97560's, but we changed roms and it didn't make any difference.
  32. also, the new differential 97560's exhibit the same poor performance.

  34. before i pursue this further, i'd like to be absolutely sure that what
  35. i'm experiencing is a problem that is specific to my machine.  i'm
  36. wondering if anyone out there has tried running iozone on a 730 or 750
  37. (should be comparable performance).  what numbers are you getting?

  39. i'm consistently seeing the following:

  41. <800K/second writing
  42. <600K/second reading
  43.  
  44. this is for both the differential and single ended 97560's.  i have also
  45. tried striping them together.  this roughly doubles the the performance.
  46.  
  47. the word that i hear from hp is that i should be getting more on the
  48. order of 2M/second sustained throughput from these drives.

  50. i suspect a problem with the i/o board on my machine.  anyone seen or
  51. heard of similar problems?  also, if anyone has performed these or
  52. similar tests, please post or send me your results.
