- Sorry for taking up bandwidth on this, but I have to let
- out this frustration somehow....
-
- This is on a hp9000/720, HPUX8.07 (delivered last week --
- 8/20).
-
- 1. I don't know why the shutdown program sometimes does not seem
- to give me a "visible" window to work with. When I type
- % /etc/shutdown
- to get into single user mode to update the system, MOST of the
- time, after sending out the messages, I will get the following
- sequence: The screen blinks, and we seen the VUE login window,
- there is a blip, and we see some of the left-over text
- on the console screen, and then it goes BLANK! I can type stuff
- and it will do something (I'm sure of this since I can get
- disk activity by typing some odds and ends). The only way
- to get a visible screen is to type (blindly)
- % /etc/shutdown -r -y 0
- This will reboot the machine, and in the process show me all
- the garbage I typed blindly.
-
- Unfortunately, this isn't ALWAYS reproducible. SOMETIMES, it
- works, and gives me a visible screen to type in.
-
- 2. Running UPDATE on the console screen, the keys don't seem to
- do what they advertise...
- The update window shows up, and the first time I type something
- (arrow keys, return, Function key), there is just a blip and
- very little else. Well, the Return key seems to consistently
- display the prompt under the update screen which needs to be
- removed by ctrl-l. Also, when update prints warning messages
- and says "press space to continue", pressing space does not do
- anything. It wants a return or something more like that.
-
-
- Has anyone else had such problems, or am I the only one?
-
-
- One frustrated root user.
