  27. I missed the initial posting, but I think I know what's going on here.   
  28. When VENIX boots, the disk driver attempts to determine what kind of hard  
  29. disk is installed.   Unfortunately, the only way it can distinguish  
  30. between some of the disk drives is to attempt to read from the end of the  
  31. disk -- say, a track that exists only on the RD52 but not on the RD51.  If  
  32. the read fails, VENIX will retry a number of times before giving up.  I  
  33. think what you're seeing is the failed retries, and, as suggested above,  
  34. it's probably due to a head/cylinder difference between your disk and one  
  35. of the supported ones.
