  17. Speaking of the Hermes connection, I used Umich's dial out modems to
  18. connect to a GEnie number local to Umich.  It was the same, or similar
  19. setup, .25 per call.  But there were big problems trying to configure
  20. the dialout modem for 8 bits rather than 7 bits.  This made downloading
  21. files impossible.  Compuserve offers Kermit, which to my knowledge would solve
  22. the problem, albeit for the price of HORRIBLY slow data throughput.
  23. CIS also has a node directly accessable by any MERIT/Michnet user.
  24. I believe it is "CIS" or  "Compuserve" at the "HOST?" prompt.  Have they
  25. had any problems with Hacker's attempting to break into users' accounts?
