- What sort of upgrade could you expect in an A2000? The only way of getting the
- 4x speedup needed to take advantage of AA would be a new motherboard with
- 32-bit data bus, and hence a 32-bit cpu. I wouldn't expect Commodore to supply
- one, but that doesn't mean that one won't become available - look at the
- Pheonix board for the A1000. That could be quite viable for someone to produce
- (assuming C= won't) - there's all those Toaster users to sell to.
-
- In any case, an upgrade for an A2000 won't be cheap. Whether or not it's
- worth it depends on the price of the new machine(s).

- Probably because we buy too many Amigas here - there's no incentive for C=
- to offer special deals. Anyway, getting a trade-in on an old machine is a
- bit of a gimmick; it's not as if they can use the old one for anything.
- That's why they've only required a manual cover or whatever. All it is
- really is a price reduction. So, how do you know that C= Australia aren't
- selling at what's effectively a reduction anyway? The prices of A3000's
- here aren't really that much higher than in the US, as far as I can tell.
-
- What I'm saying is that it's just marketing. You should look at the price
- of the new machine, what you can get for the old one (not much in a couple
- of weeks, probably! ;-) and see whether the cost of trading up is worth it
- compared to buying a 486. Whether is happens to be called an "upgrade"
- price, as part of a C= promotion, is irrelevant.
