- I was talking to an Acorn dealer who was discussing Commodore's policy on
- such matters, such as the Amiga500->600 change. Commodore don't bother
- to tell dealers about new machines, they just announce them, drop the
- old model, and expect dealers to continue selling the A600 quite happily.
-
- The dealer called this "Frightening"
-
- Why? Well, having 20-30 machines in stock, in a fairly small dealership,
- when suddenly you find yourself having to slash #100 off the machine
- to sell it. Suddenly, you're selling machines at cost, or at a loss
- (margins on the A500 can't be huge). Plus there's overheads, wages
- to pay, etc.
-
- This Commodore policy sucks - it does the customer no more good than
- Acorn's policy, and it is very likely to kill off a few dealers at
- every new product launch.
-
- The dealer doesn't like selling Amigas, but *has* to because they're
- them machines that sell.
