- Call for Papers
- 15th International Conference on Software Engineering
- Baltimore, Maryland
- May 17-21, 1993
-
- *** Note: Submission deadline is September 15, 1992. ***
-
- ICSE is the Flagship Conference of the Software Engineering Community. The goal
- of ICSE is to serve the entire community with a balanced program of reviewed
- technical papers, panels, tutorials, tool demonstrations, posters, invited
- lectures, and workshops that bring together in one meeting the most current
- research results, the best new ideas about how to apply them, and the most
- comprehensive overviews of current technology and practice.
-
- Lead sponsors of the International Conference on Software Engineering are the
- Technical Committee on Software Engineering (TCSE) of the IEEE Computer Society
- and the Special Interest Group on Software Engineering (SIGSoft) of the ACM.
-
- ICSE 15 will be held in conjunction with a number of more specialized workshops
- on topics ranging from software testing and analysis to configuration
- management. To foster increased participation by ICSE attendees, special
- workshop sessions will be introduced by mini-tutorials aimed at nonspecialists.
-
- The ICSE 15 Program Committee solicits original technical papers, proposals for
- panel discussions, and posters. All contributions will be judged primarily on
- soundness, originality, and relevance to software engineering. The program
- committee anticipates that many submissions will describe ongoing work that will
- appear in more polished and complete form in scientific and technical journals,
- and will therefore place an emphasis on evaluating papers, posters, and panels
- on the basis of potential interest to ICSE attendees.
-
- TECHNICAL PAPERS AND POSTERS may describe but are not limited to:
- - Results of original theoretical or experimental research
- - Case studies
- - Large-scale data gathering and analysis
- - Industrial experience
- - New ideas for education, curriculum and training
- - Topical discussions of management, policy, and economic, or cultural issues
-
- PAPERS are limited to 6000 words with full page figures counted as 300 words and
- should include a short abstract, list of keywords, and lead author's address.
- Submitted papers should have been neither published nor submitted for
- publication elsewhere. Research papers should clearly indicate the relevance
- of the results to software engineering. Experimental papers should, in addition,
- contain clear descriptions of experimental methods used in obtaining the
- results. Experience and case study papers should discuss the relevance/
- applicability of the results to other environments and should not be used to
- advertise or promote specific commercial products or services. All papers
- should explain what is new and significant about the work presented and how it
- compares with related work. Accepted papers will be published in the conference
- proceedings. The program committee will select outstanding papers to be
- considered for publication in special issues of the IEEE Transactions on
- Software Engineering and ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methods.
-
- POSTERS will be limited to at most two 20 by 30 inch panels and should include
- enough material to allow attendees to determine the goals, methods and results
- of the work described. Poster sessions will be scheduled in public exhibition
- and demonstration areas throughout the conference meeting days. Posters will be
- considered in any of the areas described above, but may be most suitable for
- early phases of work-in-progress, student presentations, topics of highly
- specialized interest, new or controversial ideas, and work that has not yet
- attained a critical mass of results. Posters will be reviewed primarily on the
- basis of originality, relevance and potential interest to conference attendees.
- Poster presenters should submit one page abstracts describing the content and
- significance of the proposed poster.
-
- PANEL PROPOSALS should include the title, a brief description of the panel
- goals, and probable panelists. The proposed panel chair should include a
- one-page biographical sketch. Panels will be selected according to their
- relevance to the goals of the conference and their potential interest to
- conference attendees.
-
- Deadlines for submission: Eight (8) copies of technical papers, abstracts for
- posters, and panel proposals should be submitted to program co-chair Richard
- DeMillo by September 15, 1992. Authors and panel chairs will be notified of
- acceptance or rejection by December 15, 1992.
-
- The TOOLS FAIR will allow exhibitors to demonstrate the latest technology in
- software engineering to an influential audience of technology decision makers.
- Technical presentations by the exhibitors will complement the demonstrations.
- Universities, research organizations, and commercial vendors are encouraged to
- submit proposals describing novel features of state-of-the-art tools and
- environments. Proposals must be submitted to Michael Evangelist by February 1,
- 1993, on the official application available from the Tools Fair co-chairs.
-
- TUTORIAL PROPOSALS should address important software engineering topics
- in a comprehensive fashion. Proposals should include a detailed description of
- the topic, a table of contents for a full- or half-day tutorial, a
- characterization of the targeted audience, and the relevant experience of
- the tutor. Criteria for selecting proposals are: quality, relevance to
- attendees, and contribution to the overall conference program. Submit
- eight copies of tutorial proposals to the Tutorial Co-Chair, Clement McGowan,
- by September 15, 1992.
-
- The LOCATION for ICSE15 is the Baltimore harbor, which has become a model of
- urban downtown modernization and is a popular tourist attraction. It is within
- easy walking distance of the National Aquarium; the USF Constellation, oldest
- ship in the US Navy; the Maryland Science Center; the new Baltimore Orioles'
- Park at Camden Yards, and the famous Harborplace shopping complex. Baltimore is
- within an hour's drive to historic Annapolis on the Chesapeake Bay, Washington,
- DC, and numerous Revolutionary and Civil War-era landmarks.
