  15. (a message concerning this problem was posted a few days ago,
  16.  but because of disk problems on our machine, it might not have
  17.  gone out... so here I go again)

  19. We are using FTP Software's PC/TCP package to network a few PCs onto
  20. a UNIX server, but we have a small problem with it. While the performance 
  21. of the setup is good, mounting a... "network drive" on the PC is unacceptably
  22. slow (I timed this at 35-40 seconds to perform an `idmnt').

  24. We thought it might be the server being too slow (386-33), but a Macintosh
  25. using NFS/Share from Intercon can mount a "network volume" almost instantly.
  26. So the problem seems to lie with the PC's setup, but we can't see what 
  27. parameter could affect performance in such a way.

  29. I have placed a call at FTP Software, who refered me to my local distributor;
  30. he never heard of such a problem and could not help me. Anyone of you people
  31. out there ever experienced something like this?

  33. FYI, here is our setup:

  35. server running Interactive Systems Corporation UNIX System V/386 rel. 3.2,
  36.   it is a 386-33 with 8 Mb RAM

  38. each pc is a 386-25 with 4/8 Mb RAM,
  39.   there are running PC/TCP 2.05

  41. Our net is running over 10base-T .
