  12. System: PS2 mod 70, 8 meg RAM, Optima external SCSI.

  14. A while back I posted as to how I could not load 2.0; Id get
  15. past the install disk, but on disk 1 the system would hang.
  16. After going back and forth with OS2 support, they recommended
  17. that I deinstall the SCSI. I did, it loaded. Hurrah!

  19. So I talked to the tech rep at Optima, he said he was surprised,
  20. 2.0 was running on an AT (I know, I know) without any problems.
  21. More importantly, he said the board was just an Adaptec 1640, nothing
  22. fancy. IBM support said yeah, I should have no problems with that board.

  24. [Oh yeah, I got one of the OS2 betas up and running with no problems.

  27. So I reinstalled the Optima, and now the WorkPlace Shell wont come
  28. up. I called IBM, he sez the problem is in Extended Attributes or 
  29. some such left over from the Beta copy. I mentioned how I had formatted
  30. the system after the copy (using the MS-DOS 5.0 format); he said it
  31. will take a low level format. OR I can remove the 5 OS2 system files
  32. (os2krnl, os2boot, os2ldr, wp root. sf and ea data. sf) and reinstall
  33. OS2.

  35. So hey, what's another hour. I didnt really know where to start with the
  36. low-level format. My reference disk had a file llformat.com, so I thought
  37. Id try it, a>llformat c:, the system hung (Oh yeah, there is nothing
  38. of any importance on the C: drive, all my apps and data are on the SCSI).
  39. So I thought Id remove the files, all the os2* files came off o.k.,
  40. but the wp* and ea* wont go, no matter how I trick the command line,
  41. and trying both popdos and the Windows File Manager - they tell me the
  42. attributes cannot be changed.

  44. Does anyone have any ideas if in the EA's might in fact be the problem,
  45. how to use llformat, how to change the attributes on files that
  46. refuse to let this happen, which team will win the AFC title? My
  47. tastes are catholic.
