- Stay away from any Standard Computer! I got my Advantage Series Standard
- Computer in May, and just before the end of the 30 day money back guarantee
- the computer started acting up, and I can't get Standard to fix it or replcace
- it. And no, OS/2 will not install on this piece of junk you are looking to
- buy.
-
- I ordered the 386-33 with 4 M of RAM and 130 MB hard drive, ATI Wonder XL and
- the MAG 1460 monitor. I was dissapointed when the computer arrived and didn't
- look like the one advertised. I figured that as long as it worked, the looks
- didn't matter. About a week before the 30 day money back guarantee the computer
- started crashing at random, and wouldn't stay up and running for more than 5
- minutes. I wanted to complain, but it went back to normal for a week or so.
- After that, the problem became more pronounced and I had to return it to be
- fixed. The people at Standard claim they have replaced the mother board, but
- after I got my computer back, which by the way took well over a month and a lot
- of grief, I was having the same problems. To make matters worse,
- the speaker wire had not been reconnected, my disk drive was loaded with
- junk files, and they gave me a complementary copy of the Michelangelo virus.
- I tried to reach Tech. Support for weeks after that, but wasn't able to reach
- them until last week. They sent me new simms to replace the old ones. Things
- are even worse now! I called again, and I was told they would get back to me.
- I am still waiting.
-
- The biggest frustration of all is that I can't get OS/2 to install. Yes, I have
- asked them if the system would be OS/2 compatible, and they have lied to me
- just like they have lied to you.
-
- The OS/2 installation disk is accepted fine and I get prompted to insert disk
- number 1. Disk #1 starts loading, the OS/2 logo comes up in the background,
- and then, all of a sudden, the computer reboots as if nothing happened and
- it complains about the disk in the drive. This has happened every time I
- tried installing OS/2 on my PC. I have installed OS/2 on a Gateway before,
- so experience is not what the problem is here.
-
- In summary, Standard Computer sells junk, their Tech. Support stinks, and
- OS/2 will not install on their computers, no matter what the sales people
- say. If you are looking for a computer you can count on, get a Gateway 2000.
