  11. Harsh reality hit last week when I tried to upgrade my depatrment's
  12. network from OS/2 1.3 and MS LAN Manager 2.0 to OS/2 2.0 and IBM
  13. LAN Server 2.0 (Advanced).

  15. The Northgate (Elegance 333 - 386DX-33) server won't access the A:
  16. drive during the second part of installation (after reboot, when
  17. it says "insert disk 6 in drive A:").  It didn't lock, didn't give
  18. an error message, just kept asking for the disk and beeping (and
  19. redisplaying the message) when I hit "OK".

  21. BTW, I tried it on another Northgate (386SX-20 Slimline) and got
  22. the same result.

  24. I used two different OS/2 copies and have successfully installed
  25. OS/2 2.0 on a Gateway 2000 486, Zenith 386 and Dell 386SX laptop.

  27. After many calls to IBM (and a couple of days of waiting), I restored
  28. the network to its previous state.  Then I received a call from yet
  29. another IBM tech (by mistake - long story).  I decided to go ahead
  30. and tell him about my problem even though it was in queue for an
  31. engineer.

  33. Strangely enough, he said that it was common, they knew about it,
  34. and they didn't have a fix!  So here I was beating myself up for
  35. three days trying to solve a known problem that doesn't have a 
  36. solution!  (But no one I had talked to could find any record of
  37. any similar problem!)

  39. Just wanted everyone else to know about this.  Maybe it will save
  40. some head/heartache...
