- I think you should wait for the 24-bit version,
- to come out Real Soon Now. Maybe they'll sell the old
- card $50 bucks cheaper or so.
-
-
- I have a Stealth. It's fast, and generally
- I recommend it. There still are driver problems, though.
- Some drivers don't do italics on TrueType fonts properly.
- (Maybe I should get new drivers.) This can be quite annoying.
- The HiColor mode gives me DOS session problems (since I don't
- use it, I don't mind).
-
-
- I also have the Speedstar 24X, whose drivers have fewer
- bugs (except for the same HiColor problem). It's a bit
- slower in line-drawing (noticeable while word processing or yes,
- drawing) but has a stunning 24-bit VGA mode. And it's cheaper, and
- you can buy it now. Since I run it on a 386-25, its scrolling
- admittedly could be faster, but on a 486 its slowness might
- not be noticeable.
-
- Wait awhile, if you can. Not only are the 24-bit S3's
- coming, but also the VESA local-bus ones.
