- This has been nagging me for a long time.
- Supposedly Windows 3.1 does not support real mode, and will not
- work on XT's.
-
- Assuming that Standard or Enhanced mode require the presence of an
- XMS driver, it seems pretty likely that during the installation
- process Windows is quite capable of running in real mode.
-
- After the initial DOS-mode configuration screen, Setup launches
- Windows and continues the installation as a WinApp. Suppose you
- have no HIMEM.SYS loaded during that time. The installation
- proceeds just fine (I've tried). Isn't it running in
- real mode? Huh? Inquiring minds want to know!
