  10. This has been nagging me for a long time.
  11. Supposedly Windows 3.1 does not support real mode, and will not
  12. work on XT's.

  14. Assuming that Standard or Enhanced mode require the presence of an
  15. XMS driver, it seems pretty likely that during the installation
  16. process Windows is quite capable of running in real mode.
  17.  
  18. After the initial DOS-mode configuration screen, Setup launches
  19. Windows and continues the installation as a WinApp. Suppose you
  20. have no HIMEM.SYS loaded during that time. The installation
  21. proceeds just fine (I've tried). Isn't it running in
  22. real mode? Huh? Inquiring minds want to know!
