  12. I currently have over 300 TrueType fonts, thanks to Corel, which together
  13. with their .FOT files makes my \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory a bit crowded.
  14. What I would like to know is this: I know it is possible to move fonts
  15. out of the SYSTEM directory by specifying a path in the SYSTEM.INI entry,
  16. but I am not sure whether:

  18.     *  The font directory should be added to my path
  19.     *  I can move both .FOT & .TTF files out of SYSTEM
  20.     *  This will give a noticable performance boost (the crunch)

  22. What I would like to do is have several font directories, classified by
  23. type (ie symbol, serif, sans & decorative say) so that when I requested
  24. a font Windows does not have to plow through >700 files to find it.  I
  25. shall be using short directory names however, to keep WIN.INI compact.

  28. Finally I have a few quickies about TrueType:

  30.     *  Does Windows check that all the fonts are present when it starts
  31.        up?  It seems to because I have sorted my directory using PC Tools
  32.        to put .FOT & .TTF files at the end, with Windows supplied fonts
  33.        first so Windows should load quicker (it doesn't).

  35.     *  What *are* .FOT files?  They seem to be mini programs (MZ header)
  36.        Couldn't they be combined into a single file?  I am loosing 3k
  37.        of disk space on each file (OK, 1Mb ain't much) which is a bit of
  38.        a waste.
