  12. Well, I've tried everything, and I am at the end of my rope.

  14. I CAN login as root, but not as anything else.  not even sync
  15. login will work.

  17. I took my computer to work to give some of my friends a taste of power, 
  18. but I didn't want to leave the system as open as it was, so I changed
  19. all the permissions to u+rw go-rwx  I then restored the rights on the 
  20. /bin, /etc, /dev, /lib, /usr, and /tmp directories.  as near as I can
  21. tell, everything is as it should be, but I can only login as root.
  22. (YES, /lib/{shared lib's} ARE ugo+rx-w).

  24. The error message I get is:
  25. raskol login: sync
  26. login:  no shell:  No such file or directory

  28. could someone PLEASE rescue me from my stupidity?!??!??
  29. If I can't get this working, does someone want a slightly used computer
  30. system?  the owner is finally loseing ALL patience with computers.  it is a 
  31. shame too, because computers are his/my life.  :(  :(  :(
