- Well, I've tried everything, and I am at the end of my rope.
-
- I CAN login as root, but not as anything else. not even sync
- login will work.
-
- I took my computer to work to give some of my friends a taste of power,
- but I didn't want to leave the system as open as it was, so I changed
- all the permissions to u+rw go-rwx I then restored the rights on the
- /bin, /etc, /dev, /lib, /usr, and /tmp directories. as near as I can
- tell, everything is as it should be, but I can only login as root.
- (YES, /lib/{shared lib's} ARE ugo+rx-w).
-
- The error message I get is:
- raskol login: sync
- login: no shell: No such file or directory
-
- could someone PLEASE rescue me from my stupidity?!??!??
- If I can't get this working, does someone want a slightly used computer
- system? the owner is finally loseing ALL patience with computers. it is a
- shame too, because computers are his/my life. :( :( :(
-
- If someone would please reply to this address as soon as possible, I
- would REALLY appreciate it.!!!
-
- Thanks,
- Jim Gifford
