- I tried to install Linux on my system in a small 20Meg partition and was
- succesful. I was very impressed especially to see bash as the default shell.
- Well, I decided to devote my entire machine to Linux. Thats where the
- problems started.
-
- My machine is a 386-40Mhz with 8Megs of Ram, 1 1.2Mb floppy, 1 40Mb Seagate
- ST251-1 hard drive and 1 40Mb Control Data hard drive. The comtroller is
- Western Digital and controls the floppy and 2 hard drives. It is an MFM
- type controller.
-
- During Linux installation when I tried to make the file system using
- mkfs -c /dev/hd?? <blocks> ,initially all seems well, and suddenly HD
- controller error messages start flying by the console, and all hell breaks
- lose. What surprises me is that when I had only one hard-drive activated
- in CMOS (AMI Bios) Linux seemed to install fine.
-
- Any one facing similar problems?? Is this because of two dissimilar type of
- hard drives. DO I need to hack the hd.c file? If so any suggestions??
-
- Will appreciate some help.
