- Just finished (well, nearly an hour ago :-) watching "Secret Service" on
- NBC. The second half of the show was about a "logic bomb" coded into a city
- power control computer, set up to literally fry the whole power grid if it
- was tampered with and fry the power grid on command anyway. The Secret
- Service was called in when sections of the city started blacking out.
-
- My complaints:
-
- * This show purports itself as "real life drama." Well, they didn't have
- high resolution color workstations ten years ago. Yes, they did it again,
- replacing real ANSI terminals with Hollywood special effects. Down the
- tubes went this show's credibility with the videotaped fireworks display on
- a supposedly VT-style terminal.
-
- * The computer break-in Act of 1986 places the Secret Service in the role
- of enforcement, playing up all the good aspects, including the fact that
- they have MIT CS professors on retainer. And of course the segment totally
- ignored how their enforcement got totally out of hand with Operation
- Sundevil.
-
- Yet one more reason/show for to avoid TV.
