  14. Recently an email item arrived via uucp which contained a translated
  15. address from Decnet (I believe).  uuxqt didn't understand the
  16. syntax for the return address, so it logged the event and tossed
  17. the email item out.  Had our site not been trapping mail (for
  18. tracking down another unrelated mail problem here) we would have
  19. never found this:

  37.     Sun Sparcs running SunOS 4.1.2.

  39. I spoke with our uucp neighbor, Netcom... They say this is a known problem
  40. in uucp-land, what with the various network email translations
  41. going on, and lack of clear-cut standards.

  43. My questions:

  45.     1. Is there a simple solution for resolving this with an
  46.        upgraded uuxqt? 
  47.  
  48.     2. How has your site solved this, or have you just ignored
  49.        the problem, waiting for the other mailers to conform
  50.        to uuxqt-understandable addresses?
  51.  
  52.     3. Is there a simple mod to let the newsadmin know
  53.            this happens?  (Yes, I could write a script to
  54.            scan the logs for choke messages..)
  55.  
  56.     4. How should the site doing the translation handle
  57.            this address? Something like user%huge1@ijohub...?
  58.            I understand the double quotes make uuxqt choke.
