- I have two users, one with a Intel 2400ex and another with a Digitan DS24
- modem. Both these guys swear they are truly Hayes compatible. I have run UUPC
- on a number of compatibles with no problem. One of these users called the
- manufacturer and told them the "initialization string" in the HAYES24.MDM
- file and the manufacturer says "those aren't Hayes command set strings". My
- question is two-fold. What are the \ escaped chars in the .MDM and are they
- UUPC or uucp specific? Also, to try to get these modems to work, should I
- be fiddling with the .MDM file or tweaking elsewhere. Incidentally, the
- modems are never dialing so I know it's not the chat script. Also, ProComm
- and other "Hayes compatible" driven software works fine. Any help once
- again greatly appreciated.

- Please post reponses to the newsgroup, we currently have mail bouncing
- from our uucp relay site. Thanks in advance!
