  11. The Australian Patient Trademarks and Designs office has
  12. confirmed that Digital Equipment Corporation have applied for
  13. the term "DEC ADA" to be registered in Australia as a
  14. trademark (Trademark Number: 550642). The application has been
  15. accepted and the public has until 9 October 1992 to register
  16. any objection to this.

  18. I have some concerns that such a trademark will weaken the
  19. strong standardisation which currently exists with Ada
  20. compilers. Is it a common practice, legal and appropriate for
  21. computer companies to register trademarks of this type? Has
  22. this been done for other Ada products or in other countries?
  23. Do other IT practitioners share my concern over this?
