- About two years ago, I set up a modem pool at my company which now proves
- totally inadequate for our needs. (It consists of a then-top-of-the-
- line Ven-Tel RM9600 and a couple of Practical Peripherals 2400 units,
- plus one Telebit T2500).
-
- In a couple of months we're replacing all of this equipment with state-
- of-the-art units, and I need pointers on compatibility between different
- vendors (preferably, a two-dimensional chart showing the maximum baud
- rate/throughput available between each pair of vendors).
-
- Meanwhile, I've been trying to buy a new modem for my home computer and
- have found that no manufacturer's product other than Practical Peripherals
- can talk to our Ven-Tel any faster than 2400bps. Should I junk the
- Ven-Tel, or ask them for a product update?
-
- Finally, how do I determine whether the telephone line quality is a problem,
- in terms simple enough for our PBX folks to comprehend and negotiate with
- Ma Bell?
