- I use my Zoom 14.4 to connect to WordlBlazers here at work with no problems at
- all. It has NEVER failed to negotiate a v.32bis/v.42bis connection. The only
- problem I have with the Zoom and newer Telebit modems is if it is PEP only
- (T1000) or the PEP tones are given first. The newer Telebit ROM's seem to put
- out a kind of guard tone, very similar to a 2400baud carrier tone for a couple
- seconds, just before the actual PEP tones. This confuses the Zoom, and it gets
- locked up, needing a reset. For example, I have 2 T1000's, the older ones
- just go through the normal PEP tones, and falls back to 2400 baud, and the
- Zoom connects fine with an MNP 5 connection. A newer T1000 I can't use because
- it puts out this guard tone, and the Zoom gets locked up.
-
- As for the WorldBlazers, I have them setup to issue v.32bis tones first, and
- all is OK. I guess the most disturbing part is that I talked to Zoom tech
- support, and the guy said "What's PEP?". Oh, well, they depend on Rockwell
- for firmware, so they don't need to know a lot about the modem market.
