  18. T.4 is entitled "Standardization of Group 3 Facsimile Apparatus for 
  19. Document Transmission".  It defines how an image is encoded for 
  20. transmission, including the scannable area, vertical and horizontal 
  21. resolutions, compression methods, etc.

  23. T.30 is entitled "Procedures for Document Facsimile Transmission in 
  24. the General Switched Telephone Network". It describes the procedures 
  25. and protocols that fax devices use to negotiate the capabilities 
  26. they have and the operations to be performed in order to accomplish 
  27. the exchange of T.4-encoded documents.
