- T.4 is entitled "Standardization of Group 3 Facsimile Apparatus for
- Document Transmission". It defines how an image is encoded for
- transmission, including the scannable area, vertical and horizontal
- resolutions, compression methods, etc.

- T.30 is entitled "Procedures for Document Facsimile Transmission in
- the General Switched Telephone Network". It describes the procedures
- and protocols that fax devices use to negotiate the capabilities
- they have and the operations to be performed in order to accomplish
- the exchange of T.4-encoded documents.
