  20.    Since a large (and growing) number of phone connections are carried over 64 
  21. kbps digitized lines, I would discredit anything that plans to do better than 
  22. that.

  24.    How closely you can approach that 64 kbps depends on the quality of your 
  25. line (signal to noise ratio, very low distortion) and of the components in the 
  26. modem (since the signals must be more finely distinguished as you increase the 
  27. bits per symbol rate).

  29.    I'd guess that V.fast is a good compromise between the need to build a 
  30. faster modem and the reality of quality in components and in mass production.
