  26. Sure, here is an opinion. I believe modems have stuck with CISC just
  27. about long enough. Why not move just everything onto the DSP. In next
  28. generation Digicom modems, for example, I would be surprised to find a
  29. microcontroller at all. The Analog Devices 2101 DSP is rather powerful
  30. and can handle this easily I understand. (Ask Analog Devices for
  31. a ADSP2101 spec sheet or databook if interested.)

  33. As for the ping latency, I fear its not as easy as you seem to imply.
  34. The Scouts latency is being worked on, but I dont have a report yet.
  35. Telebits with the 68030 dont necessarily have the best latencies and
  36. the Digicom 9624LE+, which has a very low one, possesses a similar
  37. microcontroller as the Scout+ if I am not mistaken.
