- I believe I have some more worthwhile information to offer on BFJ and
- how people who have merchandise on order from them (quite possibly a
- *prepaid* for Supra modem, such as I have) should proceed.
-
- First, I still can offer no "proof" one way or another that BFJ has
- closed its doors permanently, but in response to my repeated inquiries I
- have received additional corroboration that the store is currently shut
- with a "Remodeling, open in two weeks" sign on the door, even though they've
- been closed for well over two weeks and (I'm told) no visible remodeling is
- occurring. From the E-mail I've received (some forwarded through a third
- person from a former BFJ employee) it seems *likely* (again, I have no
- direct proof) that BFJ will not reopen, except possibly to liquidate
- inventory.
-
- The *good* news is that I've spoken at length to the Atlanta area Better
- Business Bureau and they were quite responsive. According to the fellow
- I spoke to, if you have paid for merchandise undelivered from BFJ they will
- make every effort to see to it that BFJ honors its commitments. To get this
- to happen you must file a complaint against BFJ. To do this, call the
- Atlanta area BBB,
-
- BBB phone # is 404 688 4910
-
- and wend your way through the #$^@*&%^# automated phone menu thingy (who the
- hell invented those things) by selecting the option "file a complaint on a
- local company" (i.e. hit #3) and talking to the people there. I was warned
- that if the owner chooses to just "close his doors and walk away" there was
- little the BBB could do --- BFJ is a BBB member, and apparently the owner
- will have trouble reopening or liquidating if they are processing our
- claims --- but, *if* you prepaid with a credit card there is usually a
- "good faith" clause in your card agreement. If you make a "good faith"
- effort to recover your $ or your merchandise from the vendor, and you
- fail, then the card company will usually cover your payment. Obviously,
- filing a compaint of this sort goes a long way towards satisfying the
- good faith requirement.
-
- Thus, I *strongly* urge any of you in the situation I'm in to contact
- the Atlanta BBB and file a complaint against BFJ. (It may even be that the
- force of our numbers will garner our case additional attention).
-
- Hope this is helpful ---- Tom
