- As I understand it, there is an enhanced AT command set known as AT+Voice.
- This command set allows the modem to record/play compressed sound and
- detect/generate DTMF tones. As I see it, AT+Voice will lead to much more
- than "sophisticated answering machines." When combined with text-to-speech
- (and someday voice-recognition) it will enable any (touch-tone) phone to
- become your own Personal Digital Assistant. :-)
-
- Grandiose claims aside, with these new modems, it will be a simple matter
- of programming to build hardware-inexpensive order-entry and information
- delivery systems. Please contact me If you are interested in the future
- of these modems, and the software that will drive them. I would like to
- see some simple public domain software that uses these new features.
-
- One particular application of AT+Voice that interests me would be a
- number you could dial to find out about government: who are my elected
- representatives, who are their biggest campaign contibutors, what
- legislation is being voted on this week, etc.
