  15. This is a little after the fact, but I have some questions about
  16. recovery, on a Pyramid MIS S server, running Online 4.1.
  17.  
  18. I will pass on the details I have heard from the person on site.
  19. The system in question was running along fine, when everything 
  20. hung.  The logs were not full.  Bouncing the application programs 
  21. did not help, so it was decided to bounce Informix.  
  22.  
  23. The Informix log shows that OnLine was initialized, Physical recovery
  24. started, and completed, restoring 648 pages.   For six hours after
  25. that, dots flew across the screen, over and over and over again.
  26. It appeared to be reading, maybe something again and again.  Logical
  27. Recovery never completed.  The engineer on site finally aborted the
  28. logical recovery and restored via archives (owwwwww!).

  30. I remember when 4.0 had a problem in recovery when the logs were filled,
  31. and it looked the same way.  One time, Informix was able to patch 
  32. something it looked like there was nothing in the Logical logs, and the
  33. system came back up.

  35. Can someone offer a guess as to what was actually occurring, and what
  36. we could have done to avoid going to the archive (without Informix 
  37. patching)?
