  19. Well, I decided that having the Aviation gopher as part of our
  20. department's gopher was a little too confusing.  So I just moved
  21. it over to my workstation and added an "alias" to our name space
  22. to separate the name from the machine.

  24. The new and improved rec.aviation gopher server is now available
  25. on "av.eecs.nwu.edu" (whose Internet address is currently 129.105.5.6,
  26. but is subject to change without notice).  It will archive the following:
  27.  
  28.     There I Was stories
  29.     the fuel prices summary
  30.     the FAQ
  31.     a listing of aviation-related FTP sites
  32.     flight planning sheets (postscript and otherwise)
  33.     rec.aviation reorg information (for as long as it is pertinent)
  34.     anything else I find interesting

  36. It also contains a link to the "Current Weather" portion of our
  37. department's gopher server.  This section contains GIF files of
  38. the most recent (well, 2 to 3 hours old) satellite picture and
  39. weather map from UIUC.  You will need a gopher client that understands
  40. the non-standard GIF type ("g") to retrieve these files.  Currently
  41. the only one I know of is a modified "xgopher" version 1.1.

  43. For those who don't know:  gopher is a new way of perusing information
  44. on the Internet.  To access information provided by gopher servers, you
  45. need to have Internet access and you need a gopher client.  All the
  46. current sources for gopher clients and servers are available via
  47. anonymous FTP from boombox.micro.umn.edu in "/pub/gopher".  The
  48. GIF-capable xgopher is in "/pub/gopher/incoming/xgopher.1.1.GIF.tar.Z"
