  12. Hello Net,
  13. We have begun to make our 3490E drives available to the general
  14. user community (square tapes) and are being asked about the amt
  15. of footage files use ... I know these drives employ some sort of
  16. compression, but is this nailed down?  We have been told that the
  17. expanded square tapes are 1100 ft and when running TAPELABEL it
  18. will report (for example) that we have used over 1600 feet ...
  19. what gives?  Any nice method of computing this?  (the IBM manual
  20. on this is less than helpful)
