  16. So far as creating communities of NB users, NBI has
  17. been its own worst enemy.  There used to be five NB
  18. users on my campus, which has a 230 full-time faculty,
  19. most of whom use either WordPerfect of or Microsoft Word
  20. for MacIntosh.  Now, the cheese stands alone--I am the
  21. only NB user left.  The seductiveness of Windows accounts
  22. for some of this attrition, but unreliable release dates,
  23. particularly for Lingua, account for most of it.

  25. This loss of customers is the main reason why I do not think
  26. that NBI can survive this upgrade fiasco.  Who is buying the
  27. program now?  Who will buy it tomorrow?
