- THanks for the offer of help on Desqview. After reading the old postings,
- I think I'm all set.

- I'd be interested in hearing what you think of OS2. What do you consider a
- minimum hardware configuration to use it? Would a 386SX and 4-8 MB do?

- Re: Papyrus-
-
- First, what Papyrus is not:
- It's not a text retrieval program like the old NB textbase. It's a bibliography
- manager, similar to ProCite, Reference Manager, Notebook II, etc. Although
- you can attach extensive notes to an individual book or article entry, and sort
- those in powerful ways using it's "notecard" facility, it isn't intended as
- a database for free-floating text files in the way that ZyIndex works.
- What you want to use this for is managing reprints, lists of books, etc -
- which may have associated notes or not. I think it is unsurpassed in the
- flexibility of formatting, ability to extract text citations and replace them
- with numbers or full bibliographic citations, and searching power. It has many
- nice conveniences and frequently surprises me by little ways that it
- anticipates normal working procedure - it is a VERY forgiving program.
- It doesn't have the slickest screen appearance around, but it is more than
- adequate, and better than some. It also has several facilities for looking up
- references while working in your word proc. and then dumping a citation into
- your text. It works well under Desqview and supposedly under windows (I don't
- use Windows), and has a TSR to accomplish this if you don't run a task
- switcher.
-
- It does a lot more, but I haven't time to list it all. When I bought the last
- version it cost $99 - don't know the current price.

- I believe they're also working on a MAC version, but I think that's probably at
- least a year away. It supports WOrdperfect for DOS and Windows,WOrd for DOS
- and Windows, Wordstar for DOS and Windows, and even Xywrite, Signature,
- and NB! (NB is treated the same as XYWrite). Also has built in
- formats for many commercial databases like BRS, COlleague, Medline, and
- converts from some other database programs like ProCite. Great
- documentation, too. What else can I say? Sheesh- I oughta get a kick back
- for this.
-
- If you have any specific questions, ask me , or better, ask them!
