- About NB4, let me say a few words. I have been a beta tester and probably
- shouldn't say anything. I have been working on the 8/13 version. I received
- most of the final documentation (booklets), which look good, but there are a
- few minor bugs that we discovered that they are trying to fix: the redirect
- printer port, doesn't "hold" its redirection; there was a small problem in the
- soft fonts for the HP that would take NBI an hour to correct but until corrected
- wouldn't allow you to load softfonts; there were a few problems in footnotes
- that they needed to smooth over: the footnotes take on the context in which
- they are entered (e.g. I entered a note in a centered environment and the text
- of the footnote was centered). I had problems with the ASCII export program.
- Thjere are some minor problems when you have a document with footnotes from
- both NB3 and NB4. The notes are not totally compatibile and it takes a few
- steps in expanded mode to work them out--actually in retrospect the
- documentation warned me but I didn't notice it. The program is very impressive b
- ut has these
- rough edges, I suppose at some point they must decide whether to release
- immediately and then send out a debug disk in a month or to wait until every
- "rough edge" is addressed.
- I decided to write this because I know how anxious people are and want to know
- where things really stand. It's difficult to find out by calling NBI.
