- I think that SCI and we would be better served by doing something similar
- to what SAS Institute did (change sas.com to sci.com below):
-
- - get an internet connection (sas.com)
- - get a copy of listserv (listserv@vm.sas.com)
- - create a discussion list (xxxx-l@vm.sas.com)
- - install an ftp server (ftp.sas.com)
- - make zaps available by ftp
- - allow upload/download by ftp
- - run a tracking server over internet e-mail (support@sas.com)
- which will locally merge tracking from e-mail with the main tracking system
- - have direct e-mail contact between customers and tech support personnel
- (I contact my SAS marketing rep via e-mail pretty regularly)
- - and any other thing I may have left out.
-
- Now I do not work for SAS, but I am quite glad that they are this progressive.
-
- I would point this out to your SCI contact verbally *and* in writing.
- Sometimes describing what you already have going with another commercial
- vendor will help more vendors to look into electronic access with more
- determination.
-
- I believe I have given the particulars of BITNET access to someone at SCI
- at least twice over the last couple of years. Commercial restrictions
- of BITNET may be the stumbling block for SCI. I'd expect internet access
- would be a better bet in the long run.
