- All this discussion of Manuals on line has so far not touched
- on the operatins/policy aspects of offering this as a service.
- 1. There are many CD ROMS.
- 2. There is a much smaller number of CD ROM readers
- So there arises a need for a CD ROM operations center, with
- an operator to mount/dismount CD ROMS for users on whatever
- network is used to access the CD readers. There arises a need
- for a way to request a CD ROM mount and a way of telling a
- requestor that all readers are busy, etc. etc. etc.
-
- Is the CD ROM center to be placed in the central library, or
- as a part of the central computing facilities? Is there a
- conflict? (who orders new ROMS? who coordinates manuals with
- software?)
