- With regard to using OCR software and scanners, I have found "OmniPage
- Professional" (be careful--there are a couple different OmniPage products) to be
- very effective. I use it with a PC, Windows 3.1, and a HP ScanJet IIc scanner.
-
- This is not a cheap solution, but "good" OCR never is. You will not completely
- eliminate errors, but with fairly clean copy, errors are minimal and sometimes
- nonexistent. OminPage Pro for the PC can be had for around $600-$700 from mail
- order sources, and it works with most scanners, but the quality of your scanner
- is important as well. I have found a few minor glitches in the program and the
- way it interprets scanned text, but I can live with them.
-
- We are using it to scan in old minutes from board meetings and such to preserve
- them, and I know we will find other uses as well.
-
- OmniPage has products for the Mac as well.
