- This is a reply to Bob Stricklan's request for information on how to get
- an ISBN number for a book he is publishing.
-
- ISBN numbers are assigned by the publisher which means a self-publisher
- must get the forms to qualify as a publisher. This is not difficult but
- it does require some effort and knowledge. Dan Poynter's Para Publishing
- Company (P. O. Box 4232-P, Santa Barbara, CA 93140 Phone 805 968-7277)
- publishes excellent books for self publishers that covers all the bases
- including how to get ISBNs. The book, The Self-Publishing Manual, from
- Para Press will provide you with all the information you need. Para
- also sells a set of publishing forms self-publishers may find useful
- and the Poynter book, Is There a Book Inside You?, is also good but
- deals primarily with the process of developing and writing a book. It
- includes several lists of publications including books and journals that
- will be of interest to self publishers.
