- First, let me thank you and Linda for sending out the above and another message
- about the DECwindows Motif licensing issue to clarify the confusion that we have
- had. The licensing for DECwindows Motif has been very confusing. I reposted one
- of the message from this list on the BUSINESS_PRACTICES conference on DECUServe
- (the VAX NOTES conferencing system for DECUS members who subscribe to it, for
- those who do not know what DECUServe is) and many people (non-education
- customers) are confused about it too. Your and Linda's message certainly give us
- a clearer picture now. At any rate, I think the DECwindows Motif confusion is a
- legitimate issue (again, not only for education customers like I have just said)
- and we, unfortunately, simply have to deal with it. It is frustrating but I
- guess that is life. :-) sigh.
-
- I can certainly understand your disappointment. I must admit that some of us
- education customers are sometimes "spoiled" by the free software offer from DEC.
- Sad but true, many may have taken it for granted. In my opinion, education
- institutions are so used to getting stuff for free or at low-cost (heck, some of
- us even have a special office or department specifically for this kind of stuff
- like fund raising) that even a small thing like the DECwindows Motif issue will
- raise some noise and dissatisfaction. It is sort of like a mentality of
- education customers and you unfortunately have to deal with it. :-) sigh.
-
- I hope your disappoinment will fade away quickly. :-) I think all of us do
- appreciate what you and the TEI folks have done for us, the education customers.
- I bet it is a thankless job.
-
- Once again, thanks for all the effort you and your staff have put in!
