- Well, I've just upgraded to the wonderfulness of VMS DECwindows Motif V1.1, only to find that I've
- gotta buy Motif licenses for all my VAXen.
-
- According to article <9208271746.AA13268@enet-gw.pa.dec.com> in newsgroup bit.listserv.dectei-l, by
- Ellen Minter <minter@MR4DEC.ENET.DEC.COM>, there's something called a QL-XA1AA-2B, "VMS DW Motif
- Personal Use License" which I can buy for $265 per node (less EDU discount.)
-
- What does this license buy me? Does it let me run an arbitrary number of Motif clients on one
- system, provided that they all display on the same server? But prevent me from running two clients
- simultaneously that display on different servers? Are different displays on the same server OK?
-
- If I use multiple transports (DECnet, TCP, LAT), does this license (magically) figure out that a
- given server is one and the same even if it goes by different names in different transports? Or am
- I only allowed one (server, transport) tuple per system? Or am I allowed a different server name
- for each transport?
-
- Maybe the license restrictions of QL-XA1AA-2B are just too severe for me to tolerate. In which case
- I suppose I should get a QL-XA1A*-AA, "VMS DW Motif Unlimited License", which costs from $265
- (VAXstation) to $11,100 (9400.)
- Then, how much do I have to pay for a MicroVAX 3400? A VAX 4500? My salesman can't solve for `*'
- in this part number.
-
- I'd appreciate any hints on these mysteries ... thanks in advance,
-
- Aaron
